School

Dear Parents of MNJHS students:

We welcome your students back for the 2014/15 school year. We have some great things planned and look forward to a GREAT year!

The vision we have for the school year is to improve student learning for all students. We have set
a school wide goal to improve reading of students by a grade level each year. Our school has shown
remarkable progress through pre-assessment of reading skills and level testing at the end of the year.
This year we are expanding this goal to include informational text. The core curriculum has identified
this as an essential learning in all classes throughout the school. The society our students are living in
currently, shows a need for students understanding how to read a textbook, newspaper, web page, etc. This is a life-learning skill that will drive the ability to obtain knowledge of any subject or topic a student might be interested in.

Our students have many opportunities to be involved throughout the school. We are continuing the 4-H Club and will be offering many club experiences after school. We will get more information to you as this becomes available. There is a strong fine arts department at MNJHS with students being able to participate in drama, band, orchestra, choir, and art. Mrs. Brady is offering Jazz and Blue Grass band before school in addition to the regular classes. The sports offerings are numerous with golf, girls’ tennis, and cross country in the fall, wrestling and 9th grade basketball in the winter, and boy’s tennis and track in the spring. We offer a competitive weight lifting program that competes within the district. There are many intramural offerings throughout the year. We also have a Power Hour from 2:45-4:00 held all days but Wednesday. This is a homework lab ,where a teacher will work with your student ,or they can have some quiet time to work on their studies. Computers are also available. We would encourage you to get your students involved in some kind of activity.

We always welcome phone class, emails, or visits. Please feel free to contact us at any time.
